Abstract

- P/M coppers are subjected to the isothermal compression tests at the strain rate ranging from 0.01 to 10.0 s-1 and the temperature from 200 to 800°C. The processing map reveals the dynamic recrystallization (DRX) domain in the following temperature and strain rate ranges: 600-800°C and 0.01-10.0 s-1, respectively. In the domain, the region at temperature of 600°C and strain rate of 10-2s-1 shows peak efficiency. From the kinetic analysis, the apparent activation energy in the DRX domain is 190.67 kJ/mol and it suggests that lattice self-diffusion is the rate controlling mechanism.

Abstract
PDF
- The hot deformation characteristics of pure molybdenum was investigated in the temperature range of 600sim1200°C and strain rate range of 0.01sim10.0/s using a Gleeble test machine. The power dissipation map for hot working was developed on the basis of the Dynamic Materials Model. According to the map, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurs in the temperature range of 1000sim1100°C and the strain rate range of 0.01sim10.0/s, which are the optimum conditions for hot working of this material. The average grain size after DRX is 5µm. The material undergoes flow instabilities at temperatures of 900sim1200°C and the strain rates of 0.01sim10.0/s, as calculated by the continuum instability criterion.

Abstract

- In this study, consolidation behavior and hardness of commercially available molybdenum powder were investigated. In order to analyze compaction response of the powders, the elastoplastic constitutive equation based on the yield function by Shima and Oyane was applied to predict the compact density under uniaxial pressure from 100MPa to 700MPa. The compacts were sintered at 1400-1600°C for 20-60 min. The sintered density and grain size of molybdenum were increased with increasing the compacting pressure and processing temperature and time. The constitutive equation, proposed by Kwon and Kim, was applied to simulate the creep densification rate and grain growth of molybdenum powder compacts. The calculated results were compared with experimental data for the powders. The effects of the porosity and grain size on the hardness of the specimens were explained based on the modified plasticity theory of porous material and Hall-Petch type equation.
