The effects of nano Fe_xC addition to superconducting properties of in situ processed MgB_2 superconductors was examined. 0.1 wt.% and 1 wt.% nano Fe_xC powders were mixed with boron and magnesium powders by ball milling. The powder mixtures were made into pellets by uniaxial pressing. The pellets were heat-treated at 700°C-900°C in argon atmosphere for MgB_2 formation. It was found by powder X-ray diffraction that the raw powders were completely converted into MgB_2 after the heat treatment. The superconducting transition temperature (T_c) and critical current density (J_c), estimated from susceptibility-temperature and M-H curves, were decreased by nano Fe_xC addition. The T_c and J_c decrease by nano Fe_xC addition are attributed to the incorporation of iron and carbon with MgB_2 lattices (Fe substitution for Mg and C substitution for B) due to the high reactivity of the nano Fe_xC powder.

In this paper, the electrochemical non-enzyme immunosensor has been developed for the determination of salmonella antigen, using inverse voltammetry. For the estimation of salmonella antigen concentration, the Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles synthesized by microemulsion method were conjugated with salmonella antigen. Then, the immunocomplex between antibody immobilized on the transducer surface and antigen containing a magnetic nanoparticles was formed. From the linear relationship between the reduction peak current of Fe(III) and salmonella antigen concentration, it is suggested that the electrochemical non-enzyme biosensor is applicable to detect salmonella antigen in the concentration range of 101-105 CFU/ml.

AbstractAbstract PDF
Mechanical coating process was applied to form 89 %-hydrolyzed poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) onto boron carbide (B_4C) nanopowder using one step high energy ball mill method. The polymer layer coated on the surface of B4C was changed to glass-like phase. The average particle size of core/shell structured B_4C/PVA was about 50 nm. The core/shell structured B_4C/PVA was formed by dry milling. However, the hydrolyzed PVA of 98sim99% with high glass transition temperature (T_g) was rarely coated on the powder. The T_g of polymer materials was one of keys for guest polymer coating on to the host powder by solvent free milling.

AbstractAbstract PDF
The surface roughness of Al, Ag and Ni nano-powders which were prepared by pulsed wire evaporation method was quantified based upon the fractal theory. The surface fractal dimensions of metal nano-powders were determined from the linear relationship between In V/V_mono and Inln (Po/P) using multi-layer gas adsorption theory. Moreover, the fractal surface image was realized by computer simulation. The relationship between preparation condition and surface characteristics of metal nano-powders was discussed in detail.

The material design and synthesis are of important to modem science and technology. Here, we report the synthesis of multifunctional nanomaterials with different properties: feroelecties YMnO_3 and multiferroic materials such as CoFe_2O_4-YMnO_3,;Fe_3O_4-YMnO_3,;CoFe_2O_4-Cd_0.85Zn_0.15S,;and;Fe_3O_4-Cd_0.85Zn_0.15S nano-composites by using a chemical synthesis process. These results provide a simple and convenient synthesis process to produce multifunctional nanocomposites.
